In the evening of 27th April, a violin concert was held at a antiquarian bookseller Polan Book Shop in Oizumi-Gakuen, Tokyo.
Fukashi Miyama's violin sounded in the homey atmosphere of the small book shop. MIYAMA, who was a member of New Japan Philharmonic as the concertmaster, played familiar songs such as Fritz Kreisler's "Liebesfreud".

However, Miyama the musician is just an aspect of him. In the bookshop, there are his tableau as well even though he is a professional violinist; he had learned playing violin since he was a child, studied at Musashino Academia Musicae, and played in the orchestra. He has a face of a painter who had experience of solo exhibitions more than ten times and a variety of group exhibitions. In intervals of the performances, he talked about his paintings. There, the words "QR CODE" appeared time and again.
He also has faces of a photographer, violin maker, and cook. That is to say, he ought to be called the multi-talented artist by the various activities.
Then, once he is introduced as a painter, Miyama works on very fresh kind of paintings. It is not that he raises a new way of expression or "ism", but he devised a painting which links to other kind of medium by describing "QR CODE" in hi picture.
The QR CODE is depicted on his paintings. Miyama says with serious face;"QR CODE" is two dimensional square codes smaller than Barcode, and used in order to access to the Internet by reading it with mobile phones and etc. Perhaps it would be useless explanation as it is printed on many advertisements and printed matters, "QR CODE" is the new type of code improved into a matrix code which is capable of enormous data.

"It takes a long time. I tried to read the code after painting it, and I re-depicted it repeatedly."
In his studio, he should try to read the code with a mobile phone so many times. By the way, would it be a piece of art just by depicting QR CODE on a canvas? Perhaps Miyama never intend to satisfy forcibly with a theory, like a conceptual art which has a meaning by describing it only. Miyama, the painter who has presented abstract paintings of bright and rich colours which make the spectators happy, should never be such.
Although Usually QR CODE is printed in monochrome, there is no problem even if colours are applied onto the code. In other words, it comes to possible to have the code as a part of a colour painting. Or the code still functions even if the background is painted as long as it won't interfere the system of the reading. By clearing such problems, the Miyama's paintings, in which QR CODE is one of the elements, is produced.

It means not only that the abstract shape of QR CODE is added to his paintings but also the birth of a painting as a multiple-medium of a painting and QR CODE, with which people are led to websites by reading the code.
Because it is just started after trial and error, the paintings link only to his profiles. But there seem to be more and more possibilities.
Paintings has a long history as a basic means of art. Miyama realised the improvement of it by giving the function of QR CODE. Although it is another matter how he will improve his artistic world, it should be a discovery for Miyama who flies to a variety of genres as the multi- talented artist. The interesting world in which traditional paintings are linked to IT world has just begun.
